Hawaiian Poke Recipe With Thresher Belly

When I got the call that the threshers were biting in

San Diego, I dropped everything and joined my

good friends, Brian and Gabe for the hunt. With our

100 pound mono leaders and live green back mackerels,

it was game on. Once the hook-ups started, the hour long

fights began and the cameras were never turned off.

With plenty of shark meat, I kept thinking about a Hawaiian

poke recipe I could make with thresher shark.

Just like in Hawaii, my new recipe uses a few simple veggies

and a traditional Hawaiian poke sauce made with soy sauce

and sesame seed oil. Now, the only thing missing is the

Hawaiian cacoue nuts, since I haven't been able to find I

used pistachios nuts instead.

(top) Up close and personal with Brian's thresher. (bottom) Both Gabe and Brian had a busy day. Lots of thresher shark steaks were shared that day.

If you need another shark recipe, try my Mexican shark soup.

Very traditional, easy to make and super yummy!

Thresher Shark Poke (serves 2)

1 pound thresher shark belly

1 bundle green onions, chopped

½ lb cucumbers, sliced

2 tablespoons coarse chopped pistachios

1 teaspoon coarse sea salt

¼ cup soy sauce

¼ cup sesame seed oil

pistachios nuts, chopped

1 sheet dry seaweed cut into thin ribbons

Coarse sea salt

Make Hawaiian Poke Recipe!

1. Start making the poke sauce by mixing soy sauce and

sesame seed oil. Place inside the refrigerator and use

when needed.

2. So now, place the cubed pieces of fish inside a mixing

bowl.

3. Then next add the sliced cucumbers and green onions.

Keep in mind, a good rule of thumb is to use equals parts

of fish and veggies, while always remembering to keep

your food ingredients balanced.

4. Finally, grab the refrigerated poke sauce, and add that on

top of the fish veggie mixture, then top off with chopped

pistachios nuts. Finally, add the cut seaweed then top, and

a pinch sea salt. Enjoy.
